Hives, also known as urticaria are swellings on the skin and are caused as a result of allergic reactions.
The allergic reaction is triggered by the release of a substance known as histamine in the blood vessels. This in turn causes the blood plasma to leak out from the blood vessels and accumulate in the skin tissues thus leading swelling of the skin.

Most topical creams are seen to be ineffective in curing hives completely. If your hives are severe, then your doctor will prescribe oral anti histamines so as to provide relief. Do not take more than the prescribed amount of the amount histamine as it can cause increased drowsiness and fatigue.
You can also take 1000 mg of Vitamin C supplements daily so as to strengthen your immune system against attack of allergens. Having Vitamin B complex supplements will also provide you with a healthy skin and will also promote the faster healing of hives.
There are also many home remedies you can try out in order to get relief from the condition of hives.
Applying Aloe Vera gel to the affected areas with a cotton pad can reduce the inflammation and discomfort caused due to hives. Try to keep the area affected by hives always cool. You can apply cold compress on your hives for this purpose.The cold water will help in reducing the itching and swelling caused due to hives.
Add baking soda and lavender oil to your daily bath water. Soak yourself in this bath for about 20 minutes to get comfort and relief from the condition of hives.
Adding oatmeal to your daily bath is another way to treat hives.Also do wear comfortable and loose fitting cloths,so that you don’t cause any irritation to your skin.
