Regular exfoliation of skin is very important in order to maintain the skin in a healthy state. For this purpose, one can make use of a salt scrub.
A salt scrub is a product which will help you in achieving a healthy skin, through the process of exfoliation. These scrubs which are comprised of salts and essential oils, removes the dead skin cells and moisturizes the skin , thereby providing you with a younger looking skin.
Along with rejuvenating your skin, the goodness of the natural ingredients present in the salt scrubs will also provide nourishment to your skin, thus making it healthy from within. It also increases the blood circulation and helps in the elimination of toxins from the body.
Making a salt scrub is a very simple process and can be done with ingredients which are easily available.
In order to make a salt scrub you can mix together 1 cup of table salt with olive oil so as to make a thick paste. To this prepared salt scrub, you can add an essential oil of your choice in order to make the salt scrub fragrant.
The table salt used here has fine grains and hence it can be used as a facial scrub also. You can also add honey to this facial scrub in order to enhance its moisturizing and skin softening properties.
Replacing the table salt with salts like sea salt and Kosher salts will give the scrub a coarser texture. The scrubs made from sea salt have a high content of natural minerals which will help in conditioning and revitalizing your skin. This scrub is found to be best in treating the callused areas of the knees, elbows and heels.
The disadvantage of a sea salt scrub is that it can be used only as a body scrub, as the large salt crystals will tun out to be a bit too harsh for the sensitive facial skin.
In order to use a salt scrub, you should massage it thoroughly on your skin and then leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. This will allow the oils to be absorbed into your skin. After the stipulated time period, rinse your skin thoroughly and pat dry with a towel.
You should take care not use the salt scrubs in the areas of the skin having a cut or wound, as it may lead to skin irritations.
