Psoriatic Skin Lesions: A Skin Condition

When the skin cells grow very fast, it leads to a medical condition called Psoriasis. Faulty signals emitted by the immune system can prevent formation of new skin cells and the formation of these new skin cells can take weeks rather than few days.

As the body does not shed the extra skin cells, the cells are piled up on the skin surface and psoriatic skin lesions are formed. Psoriatic skin disease is very common and individual can be affected by this skin condition despite of his age with other associated diseases in approximately of 10% cases.

Psoriasis affects in almost all areas including skin, scalp and nails. Psoriatic skin lesions can be easily recognized in some typical cases and in atypical forms of skin condition; it can be only diagnosed by skin specialists only.  The actual cause for this skin disease is not known, but it is believed that some genetic factor with the help of external factors increases the skin condition.

Some of the treatment with topical has proved to be successful in many patients, but in some cases the systemic therapy combined with ultraviolet radiation can very well control the disease and control it.  However, there is no permanent cure for this skin disease, an individual suffering from this disease can lead a normal life and person with serious erythrodemic or generalized pustular psoriasis cannot have mortality. Freely roaming in the society and in occupation becomes difficult for such type of individual.

It is a wrong notion that psoriasis affects only skin, but the fact is that it can affect nails too and around 50% of people suffering from nail psoriasis can see the change of color in their finger nails as well as their toe nails. You can easily identify whether you are suffering from nail psoriasis, by identifying the symptoms of pulling away of nail from its bed or pit developing, ridges or change of color of nail from yellowish orange.

You can even identify if you are suffering from psoriasis by looking for skin changing its characteristics, which can be noticed in some specific part of the body.

Psoriatic skin lesions have different symptoms like, thickening of skin, scaling and redness are the common changed noticed in this type of skin type. The findings also suggest that a majority part of the neutrophil chemoattractant  present in watery extracts of psoriatic scale is because of interleukin and it also plays an important role in the pathogenesis of psoriatic skin lesions.
