Peeling Skin

Skin is the largest organ of the  body and is made of three basic layers. They are epidermis or outer layer, dermis or middle layer, hypodermis or inner layer. It is a normal and natural process that the outer layer of the skin is continuously replaced in every 28 days. The dead cells are thus replaced. But in certain conditions the skin peeling goes beyond the limits and thus result in irritation and pain.

Causes for Peeling Skin

The excessive peeling of skin can be due to sun burn caused by the exposure to hot sun. Certain medications used for cancer treatment, chemotherapy, acne treatment may also cause the peeling. Sometimes dry skin, bacterial infection, viral infection, fungal infection, erythroderma, eczema, psoriasis etc may also cause peeling skin. Sometimes dandruff may also cause peeling of skin. In certain situations Kawasaki disease seen in infants results in rashes and peeling skin. Deficiency of vitamin A can also cause this. Heavy perspiration may also increase your risks of getting peeling skin. Further a  genetic disorder called peeling skin syndrome results in continuous peeling of the skin.

Remedies for Peeling Skin

Honey and Sandalwood Mixture

Take equal quantities of honey, sandalwood powder, turmeric powder and olive oil in a bowl. Mix them well to get a thick paste. Now spread this paste on the affected areas of the skin. This aids you in rejuvenating the parched and dry skin.

Tomato Juice

Mash a tomato and apply it on the affected skin. You can also apply the tomato juice. This may help you to get rid of the peeled skin caused by sun burning.

Mint Juice

Take fresh juice from the mint leaves and spread this juice on the affected skin while going to bed at night. Leave it on the skin and wash off in the next morning. It removes the dryness, dermatitis and eczema.

Cucumber

Spread the grated cucumber over the peeling skin and allow it to be there for 20 minutes. If you apply cucumber grates regularly then it may help you to ward off the dryness on the skin and thus avoids peeling skin.

While doing all these treatments you need to take a well balanced diet that consist of vitamins A, B, C, minerals like iodine, iron, proteins, carbohydrates, essential fatty acids etc. This is because a well balanced diet is necessary for maintaining a healthy skin.
