Acne scars are formed as a result of skin inflammation which is caused by acne formation. Acne scars when present on your face definitely hinders your beauty.
Today, there are many methods available for the treatment of acne scars. Microdermabrasion is one of the very effective and efficient treatments that you can adopt in order to remove acne scars.
Microdermabrasion treatments for removal of acne scars had gained worldwide popularity, owing to the easy nature of the process and the low cost as compared with other treatments. It is also painless, doesn’t cause the damage of the skin cells and has practically no side effects.
Microdermabrasion refers to the removal of the top layer of the skin cells which are dead. This encourages the body to produce a new layer of fresh skin cells.
The number of microdermabrasion sessions you have to undergo will depend on the number of scars and depth of scarring. For superficial scars, around 10 sessions of microdermabrasion treatment is required to ensure that you have a fresh looking skin which is devoid of acne scars.
In microdermabrasion treatments, the area to be treated is first cleaned thoroughly so as to remove dirt and extra oils. A device which contains abrasive grains is then used to rub away the outer layers of the skin. This device used in microdermabrasion treatments propels abrasive particles like alumina, salt granules or baking soda on to the surface of the skin. These particles which are exfoliating in nature, help in the removal of the dead skin cells. A vacuum is then provided to clean up the removed skin cells and the abrasive particles.
One microdermabrasion session will take around 20 to 30 minutes. You will experience a slight soreness and reddening of your skin after the microdermabrasion treatment. But this effect will disappear a few hours after the treatment. A toner or a moisturizer will be applied to your skin at the end of the session so as to soothe your skin.
The disadvantage of microdermabrasion treatments is its inability to remove acne scars that lie deep in the layers of the skin. For the complete removal such deep lying scars, the patient will have to opt for alternative procedures like chemical peels and laser resurfacing treatments.
