How To Exfoliate Oily Skin

Regular exfoliation of the skin is very important if you wish to avoid clogged pores that are the main cause of acne. Exfoliation helps get rid of the top layer of the skin that consists mainly of dead skin cells, dirt and grime. Exfoliating this layer helps reveal fresher and healthier skin that gives your complexion a bright and rosy glow.

Oily skin needs regular exfoliation because this skin type tends to attract more dirt. Also, oily skin has more oil secretion that causes clogging of pores leading to acne breakouts. However, exfoliation is an easy and gentle procedure. If incorporated in daily skin care regimes it can help avoid many skin problems.

Wet yourself under a stream of lukewarm water. For exfoliation you can use a body loofah, coarse sponge or even exfoliating gloves.

Pour a body exfoliation scrub on to your loofah or sponge. You can use apricot or walnut scrub for the body. You can also make oatmeal-honey scrub at home. Exfoliating agents with some amount of ground volcanic rocks are ideal for oily skin. But take care not to use such scrubs in large amounts as their drying effects can cause sebaceous glands to produce more oil.

Using gentle circular motions start scrubbing the exfoliator on your body. Don’t be harsh or you might end up damaging your skin by causing rashes. Be gentle especially over sensitive and delicate body parts like neck and thighs.Tingling sensation is an indicator of harsh scrubbing.

Once you are done with the scrubbing rinse off the scrub well. Rub your hands over your body to ensure that the scrub has been washed away.

If you have scrubbed your face as well you can apply a clay based face mask post scrubbing. The soothing qualities of clay will help calm down the freshly scrubbed skin. In fact if you have the time you can apply a clay body wrap post scrubbing.

Dry your body using a towel and apply a moisturizer formulated for oily skin. It is necessary to moisturize your skin after exfoliation because scrubbing dries the skin. Aloe based moisturizers are suitable for oily skin types.

Exfoliation for oily skin should be done three to four times a week. Too much exfoliation can even lead to break of blood vessels that lie just under the skin.
