Foot Care is More Important than Facial for Diabetics
Diabetes and foot care goes hand-in-hand as feet are the only part of the body to which blood flow and nutrients are minimal. Therefore, taking care of the feet becomes the most essential task for any diabetic patient to prevent any damage to occur.
Any blister, cuts, or sores happening to the feet must be immediately taken into consideration with proper care and medication. A small cut can lead to serious damage of amputation or surgery if not taken proper care; as in case of a diabetic the chances of such high damage is ten times more than a normal patient.
Secondly, the problem of a diabetic is having a nerve damage called peripheral neuropathy. By this disorder, the nerves leading to one’s feet become damage, gradually leading to numbness to the feet. Therefore, even if one has a blister or pain or cut he would be unable to feel it which would further lead to serious infections.
Sometimes, out of this disorder a patient can become acutely sensitive to the lightest touch. Hence there goes a proverb saying that ‘Prevention is better than cure’. So if you follow simple but a routine checkup for your feet daily, you can easily avoid such damages.
Here are some basic rules discussed:
Take a keen look at your feet daily and see if there is any swellings, blisters, cuts or reddish swelling anywhere in the feet take immediate care.
Wash your feet regularly with Luke warm water. Don’t make the water too hot nor keep for too long. After washing them, dry gently with a clean cloth; the surfaces should be dry in-between the toes.
Wearing proper shoes is a must. Avoid wearing sharp edges, rough seams or anything that is uncomfortable. Your shoes should keep your feet clean, dry and less injury prone.
Walking barefoot is a big no-no. You must wear slippers all the time, even at home and preferably wear socks while going outside.
Keep your sugar level always under control; so that in case any cuts occur they get easily healed.
Use pumice stone to shed off the dead skins on the feet and use non-sticky lotion to apply. Cut your toe nails after taking bath or applying lotion, when they are soft.
Immediately consult your doctor if you see any kind of infection on your feet or numb sensation.
