Foods to Protect Skin from Sun Damage

In the summer months the skin is exposed to the harsh rays of the sun. In order to protect your skin you either use an umbrella or wear sunglasses and apply sunscreen. But did you know that the daily diet too plays an important role for protection against sun damage. 

Fruits and vegetables which are rich in vitamin C help to reduce the cycle of pigment and prevent the formation of melanin. These foods also contain anti – oxidants that have an anti – ageing effect.

Fruits:

In order to have a healthy and glowing skin all doctors will recommend having at least two kinds of fruits on a regular basis. Guava, kiwi and strawberry are known to be rich in vitamin C.

Kiwi actually is very rich in vitamin C and by interfering in the formation of melanin, it helps to eliminate freckles in the skin. You also need to take vitamin E that will stunt your ageing process. Vitamin A helps to increase skin resistance and calcium which helps in enhancing skin elasticity can be found in seasonal fruits.

Yellow And Red Color Fruits And Vegetables:

These include dark leafy vegetables such as tomato and papaya. They are rich carotenoid and phytochemicals and help to improve the skin resistance.Tomato is the best food that you can have to protect your skin from damage.

It is said that 16 mg of lycopene can actually reduces the incidences of sunburn by almost half. Tomato is said to be the best food as they are very rich in lycopene.

Nuts:

Nuts such as almonds are very helpful for the body. Almonds are rich in vitamin E which softens the skin and prevents the formation of wrinkles.The nuts make your skin look younger as they moisturize your skin. The skin is also free from speckles as it prevents the deposition of brown pigment in the skin.

Barley:

Traditionally barley has been used in China as a medicine. However, in many countries it is consumed as a daily food. Barley has the ability to clear the body of excess heat and toxic materials. Since barley can absorb UV rays it is regarded as an essential component to prevent skin damage.
