Everyone wants to look and feel younger. Some people are willing to spend as much as it takes to achieve this. The latest entry in the market to help you with wrinkle problems is Botox.

Botox is an injection based treatment that paralyzes the facial muscles. Botulinum is the chemical present in Botox injections that helps in the paralysis. This relaxation of the muscles, present just beneath the skin, results in giving a younger and smoother look to the face. But is Botox a good option to remain young?

Botox is made using botulinum that is known to lead to paralysis if consumed orally. In the preparation of Botox the botulinum drug is mixed with lots of water so that only traces of it remain in Botox. These traces of botulinum are enough to cause temporary paralysis of facial muscles that cause wrinkles. Botox has been used a neurotoxin to treat disorders of the nerves that leads to muscle spasms and contractions. Now Botox is being increasingly used to reduce and prevent the occurrence of wrinkles.

A registered cosmetic surgeon will check you facial skin for wrinkles causing muscles. This is best known by gently contracting your face and then flexing it. With a marker he will mark the areas of the wrinkle prone muscles. This will help the surgeon in mapping the exact place where the Botox needs to be injected.

The surgeon will then inject the Botox using a small needle inserted just below the surface of the skin. Botox is injected in to the muscles leaving them relaxed. This relaxing process of the muscles is what smoothens out the wrinkles.

Within a period of two to three days one can start seeing the effects of Botox. The skin will be firmer, softer and smoother. However, this younger looking skin will last for only four to six months. After which you will have to go for another Botox session.

Doctors normally give Ibuprofen to counter the pain caused by Botox injections. The pain depends on an individual’s tolerance level. You might feel like scratching the area where Botox has been injected. But this isn’t a good idea. Rubbing the area will cause Botox to spread over a larger area and loose its purpose. Also the pain caused by massaging the area will be extreme.
