Beauty Products That Are Very Harmful
With a variety of beauty products that are coming to the market; their marketing promotions looks so realistic that we tend to believe that they are miracles. in little boxes. But before you stock up these products and start using them read the ingredient details and go through their pros and cons. Here are some of the ingredients that you should watch out for:
Mineral Oils:
When any product has – ‘With essential mineral oils’ – mentioned on it, we believe they are some form of nutrients that are incorporated into the product. Typically found in lipsticks,make-up removers, foundations etc.
Its mainly a crude oil derived from petroleum . Its primary function is to coat the skin like a film, thereby clogging the pores and preventing it from breathing.
Formaldehyde:
Also called ‘formalin’, this product is mainly found in nail polishes, shampoos and bleach. This substance may be irritating to the skin and can cause allergic reaction when it comes in contact with the skin. Too much of formalin may lead to asthma and cancer.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA)
This is a fairly recent entrant to the beauty product industry, AHA’s are generally found in exfoliant. It’s a good exfoliant, but it does such a good job sometimes that it can make the skin upto 50% more susceptible to UV Rays, making it more vulnerable to aging and in worst cases even skin cancer.
Collagen
Collagen produced naturally by our body is indeed good for it as it keeps our skin healthy and elastic. Unfortunately sometime the added collagen in cosmetic creams and other skin products are made from animal skins and ground chicken feet. The protein doesn’t penetrate the skin but only clogs the pores and hinders normal skin function.
Colorants
Almost all make up products use colorants. Though most colorants are regulated FDA, few of them are derived from coal tar that is actually linked to cancer. If you see ingredients like D&C or FD&C on the label it is advised to look for other products.
Lead
This should be a known fact by now. Lead is banned from all make up products because it affects almost every system in our body. It causes anemia, damages kidney, brain and lead poisoning is a very serious ailment. Though it is banned traces of lead can still be found in some hair dyes and make up product. So specifically purchase products that have lead free label on it.
